A nautical-inspired expression from the proud purveyor’s of London’s spirit. Bottled at a punchy 57.1%, it is a mightier and more flavourful version of our London Dry and has been seasoned with English sea salt.
 
The gin is distilled with English-grown wheat and Portobello Road Gin’s signature recipe of nine time honoured botanicals: juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, orris root, lemon peel, liquorice root, cassia bark and nutmeg. A small amount of English sea salt is added at the end of the distillation process resulting in a subtle yet distinct flavour.
 
It is intense, ginny, punchy, characterful, mixable and has a distinct maritime edge to it. A gin for gin lovers, and if you like Portobello you’ll really like Portobello Navy Strength.

Our Celebrated Butter Gin is a unique experience overall from the scent on the nose to the lingering finish on the palate. We take our Portobello Road Gin and redistill it with 10 blocks of English unsalted butter. The butter gives the gin a creamy mouthfeel and just a touch of sweet and saltiness.

This Old Tom Gin pays homage to what we think gin would've been before its transformation took place. We take a pot-distilled grain spirit and redistill it with juniper, coriander seed and liquorice root, before adding a little sugar and then ageing in a very old sherry barrel. It perfectly balances the punch of the juniper with the lingering sweetness of the barrel ageing process.

As with a few of our other expressions, our Savoury Gin started life as a Distillery product, served exclusively at our home at 186 Portobello Road. It started out as a gin we called King Theodore of Corsica, an experiment which was once again inspired by our delving into the history of gin drinking in London. Sounds like a curious name for a gin, ‘King Theodore of Corsica’, but once upon a time there were many curious names for gin, such as Madame Genever, Diddle, Crank, Hearts Ease, Cats Water, Lighting, Daffy, to name but a few!

Taking the idea of a gin for the King of Corsica as our jumping off point we decided to create a gin inspired by the botanicals of Corsica and the surrounding Mediterranean area. Joining the classic set of botanicals that we use for Portobello Road London Dry Gin, we also add, bergamot, rosemary, basil and green olive, and like with our Navy Gin we add just a tiny pinch of sea salt after distillation to give it that slight hint of coastal air.

Our Temperance Spirit is a lower-alcohol choice for those who want to moderate their alcohol intake without losing the flavour of gin. Using the same botanicals as Portobello Road Gin, Temperance has a well-balanced flavour of warm botanicals, juniper and citruses. Use this spirit as a replacement for any gin cocktail for a less boozy way of enjoying a good drink.
 
Tasting Notes:
 
Nose: Intensely aromatic with bold notes of juniper, cinnamon and citrus, reminiscent of gin but not entirely representative of it, a suggestion of citrus, and the mildest hint of grass and wildflowers.
 
Palate: Instantly weighty, with viscosity and a pleasant acidic sharpness, in the mouth the citrus, floral, and particularly the winter spice notes are more pronounced than the nose would suggest, they eventually give way to juniper and pepper.
 
Finish: The flavour lives long on the palate and lingers seductively in the nose, even twenty, thirty seconds after a sip is taken the flavours and characteristics bounce around the palate, as the flavour eventually subside, mouth-watering, salivating sensations persevere.
 

Portobello Temperance low alcohol spirit

To create Portobello Road Sloe & Blackcurrant Gin we distill a botanically intense version of our classic London Dry Gin and then blend it with sloe berries foraged from the wilds of Burgundy, a French blackcurrant liqueur, an Italian cherry liqueur, and a little sugar. Everything is then rested in ex-whiskey barrels at our home, The Distillery, on London’s iconic Portobello Road.
 
We find it to be intensely and re-assuringly “ginny” but also possessing a multifaceted stone fruit character, a welcome syrupy sweetness, and a subtle wood influence from the barrel.

The Botanist Gin wurde von der Whisky-Destillerie Bruichladdich auf der Hebrideninnsel Islay in Schottland kreiert. Sein milder und runder Geschmack basiert auf 22 lokalen Botanicals. Der professionelle und hauptberufliche Forager, James Donaldson, sammelt die Botanicals noch heute von Hand. Er sammelt sie auf den Hügeln, in den Mooren und an den Küstenlinien von Islay, wodurch The Botanist seinen ganz eigenen Islay Charakter erhält.
Besonders wichtig für den milden und ausgewogenen Geschmack ist neben den Botanicals auch die außerordentlich langsame Destillation in der Lomond-Kupferbrennblase namens "Ugly Betty". Die Aromen werden je nach Botanical durch Mazeration oder durch Dampfinfusion gewonnen. Adam Hannett, Head Distiller bei Bruichladdich, vertraut dabei auf seine Erfahrung und Intuition ganz ohne High-Tec Equipment. Wann die optimale Temperatur erreicht ist, misst er zum Beispiel noch heute, indem er die Hand auf die Brennblase legt. Um den fertig destillierten Gin auf Trinkstärke zu reduzieren, wird Wasser aus der eigenen Quelle verwendet.

Traditioneller London Dry Gin aus einer Brennerei, die erst seit 2009 existiert. Grundlage für diesen Gin bildet ein selbst hergestelltes Destillat aus Roggen, in welches zum Wacholder u. a.
