Drawing inspiration from the aromas, flavours and lifestyle of the Mediterranean, ‘Rosé Sainte Marie’ is named after the iconic lighthouse that marks the Southern entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, from which the 19th century Salcombe Fruit Schooners would load citrus fruits and herbs bound for the UK.

Tasting notes
Fragrant notes of fresh lemon peel and Provence herbs are complemented by the natural sweetness of red fruit and the distinctive perfume of white flowers and orange blossom. Lavender and lemon verbena, along with a hint of white pepper add subtle finesse. 

On the palate it has fullness and intensity whilst remaining smooth with an endearing and lingering softness to finish.

Voyager Series ‘Arabella’ developed in collaboration with Michael Caines MBE.

Named ‘Arabella’ after a famous Salcombe Fruit Schooner built in 1860, this limited-edition gin has been developed in collaboration with world renowned chef Michael Caines MBE, one of Britain’s most celebrated and accomplished chefs to create a truly exceptional gin.

Botanicals:
‘Arabella’ is created with 17 botanicals, all of which were selected by Michael Caines to create this exceptional gin inspired by an English Summer’s garden to reflect Michael’s culinary style.  

In addition to using the finest Macedonian juniper berries and fresh citrus peels of lemon, lime and orange, 13 further botanicals are used including English coriander seeds, cardamom, cubeb berries, lemon thyme, verbena, hibiscus, liquorice, bay leaf, bitter almonds and sour cherries. 

Tasting notes:
‘Arabella’ is a beautifully complex yet delicate gin with a foundation of traditional juniper and earthy warmth of Angelica, combined with bright citrus aromas from sweet orange peel, lemon and English coriander seed. On the palate it is rich yet balanced with a floral edge from hibiscus and a savoury note from bitter almonds. Further freshness is added from lemon thyme and verbena with a lingering dry finish from a touch of green cardamom.

Salcombe Voyager Series Gin - Arabella

In 2017, we visited Bodegas Tradición to discuss Salcombe Distilling Co’s ideas for this cask aged gin project. Working alongside Cellar Master Pepe Blandino we selected a 624 litre 80-year-old American oak cask. (that once held their standard setting 12-year-old Fino sherry) as the perfect cask in which to age this limited-edition gin.

The Fino, having reached its optimum level of maturity was carefully removed from the cask and bottled in Jerez, before the cask was shipped to our distillery in Salcombe where it was filled with a special batch of Salcombe Gin and left to age for 11 months until it had taken on significant Fino notes from the cask.  

Tasting notes:
‘Finisterre’ has tempered citrus notes, wonderful candied citrus aromas including orange blossom and moreish saline hints from the aged Fino. The result is a sophisticated and elegant gin with great character and depth of flavour whilst the aged Fino adds a further layer of complexity and gentle spice.

Voyager Series ‘Island Queen’
developed in collaboration with monica galetti 

Named after ‘Island Queen’, a Salcombe Fruiter built in Salcombe in 1853 and inspired by the historic trade of tropical fruits and spices once carried by these sailing vessels; this limited-edition release has been developed in collaboration with Monica Galetti, one of Britain’s most celebrated chefs.

Botanicals:
‘Island Queen’ is created with 9 botanicals, all of which were selected by Monica Galetti to create this exceptional gin inspired by the South Pacific to reflect Monica’s culinary style.  
To capture the tropical aromas and enticing flavours of the Caribbean and South Pacific, fresh pineapples were at first slow-roasted and smoked over manuka wood in a traditional Kamado oven, before steeping the flesh in the finest English wheat spirit for 72 hours. The pineapple infused base spirit was then distilled with the remainder of the botanicals including coconut, lime and mango with Dartmoor water according to the London Dry Standard on ‘Provident’, a traditional Arnold Holstein 450l copper pot still.
Steeping the pineapples in the base spirit has captured the freshness of this magnificent fruit along with the sweet smokiness from the manuka wood. Mango and fresh lime peel add further tropical notes along with a green freshness and subtle anise. Macedonian juniper is used in the same quantity as in Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’ and provides a foundation on which to build the flavours and aromas. Green cardamom and pink peppercorns provide warmth and lengthen the finish.

Tasting notes:
‘Island Queen’ is a rich, balanced and totally tropical gin with freshly cut pineapple, sweet mango and coconut on the nose, followed by waves of green citrus and a hint of smoked manuka wood and spice to finish. The palate is bursting with fresh pineapple, tropical lime and fruity spice from pink peppercorns. 
Traditional juniper provides structure in the background partnered with the rich earthiness of angelica and green cardamom. The finish is lingering with a sweet smokiness offset by the freshness of lime. The tropical fruits are ever present but beautifully balanced by the more traditional gin botanicals.

Named ‘Guiding Star’ after a famous Salcombe Fruit Schooner built in 1874, this limited-edition gin has been developed in collaboration with Dirk Niepoort, one of the world’s most iconic port producers.

In the summer of 2018, we created a new gin recipe as a base for the Devonshire sloes and damsons, taking into account the residual sugar content of the fruit and handpicked botanicals which would complement the natural aromas and flavours whilst drawing out the fruit’s natural sweetness.  

The sloes and damsons were macerated in the gin for several months to draw out the natural aromas, flavours, sugars and colour of the fruit before the liquid was filtered. It was then finished for three months in a hand picked 80-year-old tawny port cask that  previously held Niepoort’s famous Colheita 1997 20-year-old tawny port, before being blended with naturally soft Dartmoor water. 

Unlike most sloe gins, no sugar was added to ‘Guiding Star’, with the natural sweetness coming from the lees in the port cask, creating an exceptionally well-balanced gin that has depth and body with a complex bitter sweet finish.

Tasting notes:
‘Guiding Star’ is an exceptional cask finished sloe and damson gin where the classic autumnal stone fruit flavours have been accentuated with rose petals, bitter almonds and sweet orange peel. In the glass the gin is deep crimson in colour with a slight brick red tinge from the influence of the tawny port cask in which it was aged. 

On the palate it is rich and balanced with luscious notes of cherry, blackberries, tart redcurrants and spiced marzipan. The finish is tart with underlying sweetness from the lees of the Niepoort Colheita 1997 tawny port previously aged in the cask.

Named ‘Mischief’ after the famous Salcombe Fruit Schooner which was built in 1856, this limited-edition gin has been developed in collaboration with celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix MBE to commemorate the 10th anniversary of HIX restaurants.

Botanicals:
‘Mischief’ is created with 10 botanicals which were selected by Mark Hix and inspired by his love for the South West coast.  
In addition to Macedonian juniper, English coriander seed, bay leaf, cardamom and fresh orange peel, ‘Mischief’ uses coastal foraged botanicals including sea buckthorn, samphire and fennel flowers.

Tasting Notes:
‘Mischief’ is a complex and bold London Dry Gin. It has a strong backbone of traditional juniper and warming citrus from sweet orange peel classically paired with bay leaf and cardamom. On the palate it is rich with a subtle anise note from the foraged fennel flowers balanced with a slightly saline note from samphire.

The Botanist Gin wurde von der Whisky-Destillerie Bruichladdich auf der Hebrideninnsel Islay in Schottland kreiert. Sein milder und runder Geschmack basiert auf 22 lokalen Botanicals. Der professionelle und hauptberufliche Forager, James Donaldson, sammelt die Botanicals noch heute von Hand. Er sammelt sie auf den Hügeln, in den Mooren und an den Küstenlinien von Islay, wodurch The Botanist seinen ganz eigenen Islay Charakter erhält.
Besonders wichtig für den milden und ausgewogenen Geschmack ist neben den Botanicals auch die außerordentlich langsame Destillation in der Lomond-Kupferbrennblase namens "Ugly Betty". Die Aromen werden je nach Botanical durch Mazeration oder durch Dampfinfusion gewonnen. Adam Hannett, Head Distiller bei Bruichladdich, vertraut dabei auf seine Erfahrung und Intuition ganz ohne High-Tec Equipment. Wann die optimale Temperatur erreicht ist, misst er zum Beispiel noch heute, indem er die Hand auf die Brennblase legt. Um den fertig destillierten Gin auf Trinkstärke zu reduzieren, wird Wasser aus der eigenen Quelle verwendet.

Traditioneller London Dry Gin aus einer Brennerei, die erst seit 2009 existiert. Grundlage für diesen Gin bildet ein selbst hergestelltes Destillat aus Roggen, in welches zum Wacholder u. a.
