As a keen gardener, Johnny’s great-grandfather JJ Whitley kept his own garden well stocked with exciting flavours, including a flourishing rhubarb patch, which served as Johnny’s inspiration for this gin.&nbsp;

It evokes Johnny’s childhood memories of picking fruit when visiting his mother’s Scottish family by taking the famous Whitley family gin and introducing a fresh, fruity twist of Scottish raspberries.

A taste for adventure and discovery, which runs through all eight generations of the Whitley Neill family tree, meant Frederick Neill voyaging through Persia at the turn of the century and was surprised to discover quince fruits growing in the ancient mountains. And it’s the unmistakable sweet tang of Persian quince which gives Whitley Neill Quince Gin its distinctive, alluring taste

The aroma of fresh stone fruits appears immediately, gently followed by hints of juniper and citrus zest. The distinctive flavour of quince dominates the palate, giving way to the sweetness of apricots and peaches, with a long, fruity finish that opens out into orange blossoms and zesty grapefruits.

Evoking the flavours of rural England, the taste of fresh plump berries and hints of floral hedgerow conjure memories of Johnny’s childhood spent picking blackberries in the fields and lanes around his grandparents’ farm.

Containing a smooth flavour, with a core of piney juniper, followed by zesty sweet citrus and hints of black pepper. The finish has a little earthiness alongside the warming spice of cassia.

All eight generations of the Whitley Neill family tree shared a passion for discovery. So, after making his way to Rome in order to compete in the 1960 Olympic Games, John Whitley Neill couldn’t resist travelling through the Italian countryside. Inspired by the flavours his father found there, Johnny Neill infused violet flowers as well as lemon peel and sweet orange to create this elegant gin.

Bright vibrant flavours of juniper are followed by a herbaceous floral note from the violet flowers.

It’s then they discovered a hint of black pepper allows the inherent sweetness of the strawberry to shine through stronger than ever. Which works beautifully as a partnership with the Original botanicals in Whitley Neill Gin.

The Botanist Gin wurde von der Whisky-Destillerie Bruichladdich auf der Hebrideninnsel Islay in Schottland kreiert. Sein milder und runder Geschmack basiert auf 22 lokalen Botanicals. Der professionelle und hauptberufliche Forager, James Donaldson, sammelt die Botanicals noch heute von Hand. Er sammelt sie auf den Hügeln, in den Mooren und an den Küstenlinien von Islay, wodurch The Botanist seinen ganz eigenen Islay Charakter erhält.
Besonders wichtig für den milden und ausgewogenen Geschmack ist neben den Botanicals auch die außerordentlich langsame Destillation in der Lomond-Kupferbrennblase namens "Ugly Betty". Die Aromen werden je nach Botanical durch Mazeration oder durch Dampfinfusion gewonnen. Adam Hannett, Head Distiller bei Bruichladdich, vertraut dabei auf seine Erfahrung und Intuition ganz ohne High-Tec Equipment. Wann die optimale Temperatur erreicht ist, misst er zum Beispiel noch heute, indem er die Hand auf die Brennblase legt. Um den fertig destillierten Gin auf Trinkstärke zu reduzieren, wird Wasser aus der eigenen Quelle verwendet.
