Chow Hound Gin at 44% abv is a playful gin with an emphasis on the cardamom, coriander and cinnamon, which results in a warm spicy gin, perfect for the autumn and winter.

Chow Hound gin is based on the American mission that happened at the end of WWII. So using our Chocolate Labrador as inspiration created a character that speaks of determination, salvation and ingenuity. 

After the winter of desperation when over 20,000 dutch died from starvation and just before the peace treaties were signed, an agreement was made between both sides to allow USA and UK airforces to drop food parcels over the Netherlands without the threat of bombing from the ground. The food that was dropped over Valkenburg where we are based was from the US airforce and they called their mission Operation Chow Hound.

The JVS Gin is a navy style of gin, so it’s a little stronger at 55% abv so to give it the right profile we use the cooler botanicals such as rosemary and lemon thyme along with a narrower distillation cut to deliver a high quality, strong yet smooth gin. Great aromas of juniper and herbal notes come bursting through as you sip it neat or mix it up.

JVS Gin is named after Jan Van Speyk, a Dutch naval hero. As with many heroes, the stories have become embellished over time and we grew to like the young man who was determined never to surrender regardless of the threat!  As an orphan, JVS grew up in Amsterdam and was trained as a tailor.  His heart yearned for adventure though and he retrained as a sailor and went to protect the Dutch Trade lanes. During the Dutch war of independence, he did not realise that his ship was being blown close to the coast and that the Belgians were approaching.  Too late, he had to take action, and blew himself and his crew up!

Foolhardy or brave, reckless or determined, whichever way you look at it, Jan Van Speyk lived and died for what he believed in. In an age when our way of life can feel under threat, would you stand up for what you hold dear? How far would you go?

Donkey Jack gin was the first gin in the Driftwood portfolio. It’s a London dry style of gin with a strong juniper backbone that showcases the citrus elements of sweet orange peel and dried lemon zest to perfection.

This is a smooth gin that forms the base for many cocktail recipes, and the tangy elements of lemon play well with vermouths making it the perfect companion for a dry martini.

Donkey Jack is based on an American detective called Ken. Ken worked for 25 years in the murder and gang strike force.

When asked why Ken worked for so long in a job where the worst side of human society was on show every day, his answer was “some people are just born to protect and serve!” He also introduced us to the work of Lieutenant Dave Grossman who inspired him to continue everyday.

Das Wasser, das für die Herstellung verwendet wird, stammt aus dem größten Nationalpark in Hollands Oosterschelde. Die verwendeten Tomaten stammen aus Italien bzw. Sizilien. These botanicals are brought together in our own closely guarded recipe but rest assured all are carefully selected and tested for utmost purity and quality.

Hanami Dry Gin

Dutch Courage dry gin is distilled from Nine botanicals: juniper berries and iris root from Italy, coriander from Morocco, angelica, sweet oranges and fresh whole lemons from Spain, liquorice root from India, cardamom and whole vanilla beans from Madagascar.

The gin is distilled using a unique distillation method with separate distillation of each botanical so producing a fresh, complex and layered flavour from a total of 14 distillations.

Tasting notes:
The nose is clean with fresh citrus and earthy juniper notes and a beguiling hint of spice and vanilla. The balance of Zuidam Dry Gin makes it perfect for a refreshing Gin and Tonic or a perfect Dry Martini.
