Vidda Tørr Gin

Vidda Dry gin is something as exotic as a gin made only with plants that grow wild in Norway. The idea for Vidda was also the conception of the Oslo Handicraft Distillery (OHD). After a long hike over the mountains, one of the three future founders of OHD fished a large lump of ice up the river. They carried this up to the cabin where it was used to cool the afternoon gin tonic in the cabin wall. Throughout the day, the tour group had stopped and smelled and tasted the plants along the trail. A number of juniper bushes also grew around the cabin. - Had it been possible to make a classic London dry gin only with plants that grow wild here in the mountains, one asked. A couple of years later, Oslo Håndverksdestilleri was founded and Vidda Tørr gin was launched. If you look closely at the label, you will actually find this story hidden around in the illustration. Of course, juniper berries must always be in gin, but there are several other plants that are also almost mandatory. Most of these do not grow in Norway. When Vidda was launched, it was in fact the first commercially produced gin in the world without citrus. This allows the Norwegian gin plants to emerge more clearly so that the Vidda tastes of mountains and nothing else. To preserve the flavors from the plants as best as possible, we use two different techniques in the same distillation. Some of the growth is placed in the boiler itself, while the lighter growths are placed in a steam basket. Both parts are massaged overnight before distillation. The plateau is also distilled with Norwegian potato spirit. This means that Vidda is not only from Norway, but is a real Norwegian gin. At the same time, Vidda is a classic London dry gin that can be enjoyed the way you prefer to drink gin. Tastings: Smell: Nicely concentrated aroma characterized by juniper, cool herbs, flowers and spices. Taste: Gin with a creamy and full mouthfeel and a complex touch of juniper, flowers and herbs such as mint and rosemary. Aftertaste: Light, floral tone; blueberries and a long finish with herbs like fresh mint. Translated by Google
